Task Sequence Fails
Hi Folks, my sccm 2007 system has been working fine, well up until last week, now we are encountering errors when trying to image a new pc with our custom image. we add the new pc into sccm & the collection with the OS that it needs, i do a pxe boot as normal then i get the select task which there is only on "install Windows 7" it that goes off to run the actions, its gets to "Running Action: Move State Store" but then displays an error msg "Task Sequence: Install-Windows 7 has failed with the error code (0x00000001). for more information, please contact your administrator. i've tried everything and googled the hell out of it but i'm at a loss, can anyone suggest anything i can try, any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks Owen.

that error means incorrect function, so either its trying to do something it can't because the file or script is not where it's supposed to be (cannot find the file) or it's trying to do something in Windows when it should be in WinPE or vice versa, if you post the entire smsts.log or the line with the failure we'll have a better idea. Those two and a half lines of log is definitely not enough. Please post the log files on some public cloud storage that are accessible by other users here.

Wrong smstslog file, or the info has been truncated away... Use the following instructions to increase the size of the smsts.log file, remember to both add the smsts.ini file and configure the setup windows and configmgr action. http://blogs.technet.com/b/system_center_configuration_manager_operating_system_deployment_support_blog/archive/2011/10/12/how-to-change-logging-options-for-smsts-log-in-system-center-configuration-manager-2007.aspx Then upload the new logfile(s), and this time, upload a link to a file download, instead of posting the content. / Johan Regards / Johan Arwidmark Twitter: @jarwidmark Blog: http://www.deploymentresearch.com FB: www.facebook.com/deploymentresearch

Still can't find the error you reference in the logs, please increase the log file size per the article I sent, run the deployment again, and then post the new log files / JohanRegards / Johan Arwidmark Twitter: @jarwidmark Blog: http://www.deploymentresearch.com FB: www.facebook.com/deploymentresearch

It's actually the Check Pre-reqs action that fails first, and I cannot see the "Use ToolKit Package" being called before that which is required for all MDT specific functions in SCCM 2007. Did you remove the Use Toolkit Package? You are doing a Computer Refresh right? Starting the deployment from Run Advertised Programs? Because a bare metal deployment via PXE or boot media should never run those actions... Try create a brand new task sequence using the MDT 2010/2012 standard client task sequence template and compare that task sequence with the one you are trying to deploy. / Johan Regards / Johan Arwidmark Twitter: @jarwidmark Blog: http://www.deploymentresearch.com FB: www.facebook.com/deploymentresearch

Hi Johan, thanks very much for your replies on this issue, i've worked out the issue, i had already upgraded MDT to 2012, but i had forgot to upgrade the deployment share within the deployment workbench, as soon as i done that everything worked as if should. so thanks again for you help on this greatly appreciated. regards Owen.
