Task Sequence - Simply wipe a hard drive of old PC's
Hi, What would be the easiest way to remotely wipe the hard drives of old PC's (they are being returned to owner) using SCCM 2007 SP2 (they all have clients on them) Previosly I would boot into a bartPE cd and use the wipte function but was hoping there is a simple task sequence or something to simply wipe a HDD of a computer. I have created a New Task Sequence and only added 'Format and Partiotn Disk' : Setting of use 100% of disk and call it default. Advertise to my Old PC Collection. Would this suffice? thanks

the format and partition step should do it, try creating a custom task sequence to test it, should be quick and easy to do so, 1. step 1, reboot into WinPE 2. step 2. format and partition disc 3. step 3. shutdown computer. My step by step SCCM Guides I'm on Twitter > ncbrady

In a security point of view, this is not enought to permantely erase data. From my side i use an erasure software, see www.blancco.com if you have sensitive data on the hard disk. Regards,

Thanks Nial, Task Sequence Steps: Someone will have to be on site to fress F9 to pxe boot the PC? (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb632585.aspx) 1. Restart in Windows PE (options tab) Task Sequence variable SMSTSINWinPE equals "false" 3. PArtition Disk 0 : 100% of remaining disk. Task sequence variable SMSTSClientCache not exists 3. Restart Computer If it doesn't work I should check (a) drivers in boot image and smsts.log on client? Where is the shutdown option? This seem OK?

you can use Shutdown.wsf from my post here My step by step SCCM Guides I'm on Twitter > ncbrady

Or you can create a TS as follows: The machine shuts down immediately after the formatting. Obviously I did protect this TS with a password for safety reasons. I hope you find this useful... Cheers, Steven.

Cheers, Steven. After the shutdown using your task sequence, the machine I am testing on (HP DC7900 SFF), after I start the device again, automatically tries to network boot without pressing F12. Is this something anyone's come across? Cheers, Chris
