System Discovery generates duplicate entries for some objects, but not others
Hi, I am a bit "fuzzy" on how exactly System Discovery work, so I was hoping someone could clear a few things up for me. First off, I'm running the following setup: Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Configuration Manager 2007 R3 with SP2 SQL Server 2008 R2 Ontop of that, the site mode is set to Native Mode. I have activated the following Discovery Methods: System Group Discovery Security Group Discovery System Discovery User Discovery Heartbeat Discovery The issue I am experiencing is that for some computer objects, ConfigMgr creates duplicate entries. I am assuming this is due to my System Discovery. The first object is set as I would expect it to be, meaning: Client = Yes Assigned = Yes Blocked = No Obsolete = No Active = Yes The second object for the same computer does not have a client installed. When opening the the objects, on the first object everything seems fine, except my SMS_AD_SYSTEM_GROUP_DISCOVERY, meaning I cannot see any groups for this object. They are instead found on the second object, the one discovered by System Discovery. If I delete the second object, and re-initiate a System Group Discovery, the Agent Name and System Groups will show up on my first object. If this applied to all objects, I would not be as puzzled, but it is only for some objets, not all. For other computer objects, no duplicate is created and the SMS_AD_SYSTEM_GROUP_DISCOVERY shows up correctly along with the AD_SYSTEM_DISCOVERY on the object that has a client installed. All clients are founds in the same OU which is targeted by the System Discovery. Now, I suppose I could simply disable my System Discovery. The only reason I activated it in the first place was to have it send an added AD attribute to the database, which I could probably do just as fine without. However: What will then happen to all my computers that already have duplicate entries? Upon disabling the System Discovery, should I simply delete all the computer objects with no clients and then re-run the System Group Discovery? I hope I made some sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
