System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3 installation
Hi All, I have couple of questions for installing SCCM 2007 R3 patch. I have SCCM site hierarchy with SCCM 2007 SP2. I want to install R2 and R3 patch. 1. R3 patch includes R2 patch functionality? Or Do I want install R2 first and then R3. How will be the installation path? 2. Can anyone put light on Licensing part of the R3 patch? 3. What needs to be taken care before installing R3 over SP2 (any pre-requisite) patch? 4. Is there any change in version of product after installing R3? 5. Is there any change in SCCM Client version? Do I want to upgrade it? Regards, Kedar Thanks & Regards, Kedar

R3 includes R2 functionality. (let's not use the word "patch" because neither R2 nor R3 are patches) You have to have SA in order to own R3. If you do not have SA I've been told you must totally repurchase SCCM. There's one pre-req patch that needs to be installed on all servers and clients. yes, the version number does change. No, you do not have to upgrade the client. The client pieces were added in SP2. John Marcum | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum |

Hi John, Thanks for the inputs. One doubt regarding SCCM Client part.... 1. Which patch is require on client side? 2. After installing R3 on server side, What will be the impact on functionality on the clients which dont have this patch installed? Will they able to function properly (SW Dist, patching, SINV, HINV DCM functionality etc)? 3. Is it mandatory to install client patch before installing R3 on server? Regards, KedarThanks & Regards, Kedar

#1: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977384/en-us #2: only the (client side) features that were introduced with R3 (especially power management) will not work #3: that's more or less up to you

Hi, A small modification in SCCM R3 update version statement. There is no change in version after SCCM Sp2 installation. The version is intact on 4.00.6487.2000. Note The displayed product version number for Configuration Manager console installations does not change after you run Configuration Manager 2007 R3 Setup to add additional R3 feature support. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff977048.aspx Regards, Ankur

There is no change in version after SCCM Sp2 installation. The version is intact on 4.00.6487.2000. That is true, but you have to install a prerequisite hotfix for R3 and that changes the version number: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977384/en-us (.2157)Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de

To prevent an ensuing fight :) you're both right. The Configuration Manager site server version remains the same - 4.00.6487.2000 The Configuration Manager client version will become - 4.00.6487.2157 (when KB977384 is installed) (note: client version will increase when installing recent post-SP2 hotfixes e.g. KB2444668 = 4.00.6487.2161) The Configuration Manager client components will become: CCM Framework - 4.0.6487.2155 ConfigMgr Software Distribution Agent - 4.0.6487.2154 ConfigMgr Power Management Agent - 4.0.6487.2157 (note: you will not see the 'ConfigMgr Power Management Agent' on a client as it is included, but not enabled, in the original SP2 client version) I think that's that subject done to death.
