System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3
There are hints that R3 is coming end of Q1 or so. I'm very close to implementing a GPP based power management solution on about 7000 workstations. But to be able to use the SCCM service to manage and report would be a lot easier. Is there any possible way that I could get a somewhat firm release date for R3?

Q2 2010 is the the stated release and has not changed (to my knowledge). Although Group Policy Preferences is pretty flexible, it lacks one major piece: reporting. This is where R3 will/is supposed to shine. I really don't know how or if this should affect your decision though.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/default.aspx | Twitter @JasonSandys

1. When does R3 rollout? What month? I do have some leeway.2. Would going from a GPP PM solution to SCCM R3 PM be feasible? #1: there's nothing announced yet. Microsoft might announce something at MMS next month. Just wait and see. #2: everything can be done it just depends on the effort. A definitive statement can only be given after R3 (beta, RC or whatever) was released.

Sorry for kicking this thread back up. But is it possible to get two questions concerning R3 answered? What are the prerequisites for R3? Currently we have SCCM 07 SP2 R2 on a Win08 R2 Standard box running SQL 2008 SP1. Does R3 Power Management work with Windows XP sp2/3? This is critical, we expect to complete Win07 application testing this year, but a complete Win07 migration by year end is a long shot. Thanks again.

ConfigMgr R3 will install on an SP2 site, and yes, the features will work with Windows XP. Thanks Thomas! Where did you get this information from?

The post above with the link actually mentions XP/7 a little bit.. XP will work, but of course only Win7 will take advantage of more advanced features due to limitations in XP itself rather than in SCCM. http://www.microsoft.com/events/series/technetmms.aspx?tab=Webcasts&seriesid=37&webcastid=7267 Jannes Alink also has a nice blog post on R3 which mentions the requirements: http://www.jannesalink.com/blog1.php/2009/11/26/let-s-dive-deeper-in-configmgr-r3

I'm confused on the system center configuration manager page from Microsoft, i see that R3 is released, but i seem to find only evaluation versions? Even on my technet i can't find the R3 update. And i can't install the evaluation version on my testmachines. What am i missing here?

What am i missing here? Patience! :-) SA customers are already able to download R3 using their portal and it will take some time until it will show up on MSDN/Technet.

With any luck it will show up on TechNet within the first full week of Nov. Like you, I'm waiting for it and I check every day in hopes that it is released early.http://www.enhansoft.com/

Ok my company is an EA customer and I have downloaded System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3 software. Is there any documentation other then the documentation library in the download on how to run the upgrade? I have SCCM 2007 R2 which I just upgraded a few months ago. Just need to make sure I am upgrading properly....anyone know?

See http://blogs.msdn.com/b/shitanshu/archive/2010/05/04/part-1-configuration-manager-r3-beta-deployment-in-microsoft-it.aspx (it mentions the beta version but the same steps also apply to RTM).
