System Center 2012 Service Pack 1 Configuration Manager – Evaluation (VHD)

I just downloaded this and am running this VM on Oracle Virtual Box. It loads up fine, but it seems as though SQL will not run as it says the trial period has expired.   I tried adjusting the date of the VM to a year ago, and that didn't fix it.  Anyone else run into this?

Thanks.

Looks like it's only supported on Hyper V (2008 R2)

A much better question for a SQL forum: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/sqlserver

Hi,

I am having the same problem on Hyper-V (the server version is Windows Server 2012).  Can someone from the System Center team help out here?

Restating the problem:

Downloaded the System Center Configuration Manager 2012 SP1 Eval vhd.  After less than 3 weeks, an error is generated in the Windows Application Event Log saying that "SQL Server evaluation period has expired".

Event ID: 17051
Source: MSSQLSERVER
Level: Error

So, the SMS WMI Provider fails, which in turn fails the System Center Configuration Manager 2012 Console.

On the desktop of this virtual (i.e. where the SQL error occurs), in the lower right hand corner, it says "Windows License valid for 158 days".

Thanks in advance.

Hello, the same issue with eval VHD, looks like authors did reset eval conters for Server, SCCM, but not for underlying SQL.

@Jason, your proposal is not valid since we complain not about SQL as such, but about ConfigMgr eval VDH.

@Dsatkhan You are correct, I didn't read the original post well enough.

This is currently a known issue with the current VHD evaluation for Configuration Manager. The VHD was setup using an evaluation of SQL. You could use your own SQL key in the SQL setup to get SQL working or setup your lab from scratch using evaluation copy the Configuration Manager /SQL.

If you want check the SCCM you have an option to extend the SQL Evaluation Period.

Simple all we need to do is run a script in the windows\system32 folder called slmgr.vbs.  Check the steps below:

  1. Bring up a Command Prompt.
  2. Type slmgr.vbs rearm, and press ENTER.
  3. Restart the computer.

You computer has now extended the evaluation period 60 days!!!  You can re-arm up to 3 times giving you an activation-free trial period of a total of 240 days!!

How Much Time Is Remaining in the Evaluation Period

You can find out by running the same script this time with different switch:

  1. Type slmgr.vbs -dli, and the current status of the evaluation period is displayed.  (the dli switch means display license information)

If you want to find out what else you can do with the script type slmgr.vbs ? and youll get a full list and explanation of all the switches.
