Sysprep and Steady State
I have installed steadystate and configured it the way I want. I then sysprep the machine and duplicate giving the machine a new name. Whne it comes back up the sysprep policies are no longer applied to the user account like before. I unlocked the profile and get the same results. I undo all settings and sysprep and get the smae results. The only wayI have been able to get it to work properly is by exporting before a sysprep and re-importing afterwards. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to automatically import the user back in upon a reboot?

Hi, The problem can be that the user profile is locked before you proceed with the sysprep. If so, please unlock user profile first to try again. The problem may occur when the user profile was locked before you performed the sysprep operation. When you run Sysprep on a computer with WindowsSteadyState, ensure that all user profiles are unlocked before running the tool. Sysprep.exe does not recognize locked or mandatory profiles and will copy a new Ntuser.dat file into the <user> folder. Additionally, Sysprep.exe creates a new user SID. After running Sysprep.exe, existing WindowsSteadyState user profiles (Ntuser.man) become invalid as they are no longer linked to the new SIDs. If you unlock all user profiles before running the sysprep command, the existing user settings should be kept. You do not need to import them back upon a reboot. Please unlock all user profile and then run sysprep to test this issue again. By the way, for the image creation, please turn off windows disk protection before capturing image. For more information on running Sysprep with SteadyState, you can refer to this thread: http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsToolsandUtilities/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1815384&SiteID=69 Or the Preparing the Reference Computer with the System Preparation Tool section of the SteadyState Handbook. Thanks. I did unlock the profile but it is like you said without doing a re-import it is useless. Is there a way that you know of to script it re-import of the settings. I am looking to image my pc's and when they come up they will run a script that will, among other things re-import the users settings for SteadyState.

Hi, You can use the command: sctui.exe /import to create a batch file to automate the user profile importing process. For more information of the command, under the command line type the following command: cd C:\Program Files\Windows SteadyState sctui /?
