Surface 3 Audio has stopped working

Audio (and, consequently, all media playback) has stopped working on my brand new Surface 3. Symptoms include no sound (although volume shows as on and at whatever percentage I turn it to), not being able to initiate a Skype call ("There's a problem with your audio device"), not being able to play back audio or video files in any app (Xbox Music "Can't play. We couldn't find your audio device...0xc00d4e86(0x88890001), Xbox Video "Can't play. Please try again...0xc00d11cd (0x800705aa), VLC (nothing whatsoever)).

All devices showing normal in device manager, nothing relevant in the event logs, except that some Windows Updates applied in the background yesterday, and it does seem to have stopped working since that happened.

A little disappointing for a device not even a week old - anyway, anyone else experiencing any issues like this?

So a few hours later, a new batch of updates showed up. Installed these and the problem has resolved itself.

Same thing happened to me today.  When it stopped working I just did a standard shutdown/restart and that did not help.  After seeing this post I hit Windows Update and it pulled down a few updates.  None of them appeared to be related to audio specifically.  Closest thing was an update to front facing camera.  After installing updates and restarting, audio started working again.

Just  acquired my Surface 3 from AT&T. While watching some videos on Youtube I started to have audio problems. If I moved to another video, the previous audio would continue to play on top of the new video and audio; at the same time. The problems got worse. My volume control switch would not function properly either. The switches "auto repeat" would not work; you had to repeatedly press "+ or -". Camera could not do video any more. Pretty soon no audio was available on my surface 3. I had to do  a  re-install of o/s to get it working. 2 days later I'm back in the same predicament. Will try to see if any updates are available.
