Suppressing the program Download/Run Dialog box
I have a program that I need to install from a local source, I can't install it from the network. Also, I need to have a user instigate the install, so it's not an 'invisible' admin installation. So in the advert, I tell it to download instead of running from a DP. However, I'd like it to NOT bring up the "Download Approval" dialog to start the download, or to have the user approve running the program when it's downloaded. Is there a way to suppress this so when a user tells it to run, it just starts downloading and runs the app automatically when it's downloaded? I don't mind if it keeps the user notified of the progress, I just don't want it to sit there waiting for permission.

No, it does ask. (try it!) When you tell the package to download instead of running from the DP, it brings a dialog up to notify the user that it needs to download. That dialog presents an "OK/Cancel" option which effectively means that it is asking permission. If OK isn't selected, the download doesn't start. In addition, there is a "run program when download is complete" checkbox that must be checed in that download dialog for the software to install automatically after download. If you don't check that, it will notify you when the download is complete. The package in question will disable the network link while installing, which means that the installer will fail while installing if I run it from the DP, hence my need to have this download first. I could not have any user interaction, and that could do it, but I want the users to be aware of and able to control the timing of the install so it doesn't create a problem with them running an application.

Well, if it's a mandatory advert, I think it goes without asking. But if it's an optional install, you have to request the install, approve the download and then approve the install again after the install. I understand WHY it's there, as a remote user should probably be notified that a download might take a bit especially if it's a big package over a slow network, but I wish I could disable it, or automate it's post download install in some instances without requiring a user to understand the choices.

There is no way to accomplish this. By design if you have a non-manditory install with download and install the user must start the download and will have the choice to download and install now or download and then go back and start the installation later. http://www.sccm-tools.com http://sms-hints-tricks.blogspot.com
