Super-basic MOM 2005 performance monitoring question
I have created a new performance rule in an existing performance rule group via the MOM2005 Admin Console. The other performance rules in this rule group are active and functioning. The new performance rule is enabled, but I cannot see the performance counter in the MOM 2005 Operator Console. Must I also enable the associated performance counter on the server for which I am trying to collect data?

An easy way to check this is to run PerfMon on the server itself. If you see the counter in there with data then MOM should be able to collect that data also. It is possible that the counter is not correctly installed on the server, or it is actually disabled. If the counter is installed but disabled on the server, use this tool to enable it: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=12123 (Extensible counter list).
