I am using SSRS 2008 R2 and using BIDS to develop reports. I have a report that runs fine on its own but when that report is included as a subreport in the main report I get the following error where the subreport is supposed to render: Data retrieval failed for the subreport, "sub report name", located at:/sub report name. Please check the log files for more information. This seems to be a problem with any sub report in BIDS on my machine when running in preview. When the reports are deployed to an SSRS server, they run fine.Jeff T Jones

Hi Jeff, Based on your information, I think your subreport might locate in another report project, to this scenario, it will not render the subreport correctly except deploying the subreport to the report server, then set a relative subreport path in subreport's property.
