Strange error when trying to start a new query server
The index server is up and running. It's a fresh installation of MOSS with SP2 x64 on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64. When I try to start the service on the query server, specifying Administrator as the user for creating the share (member of the WSS_ADMIN_WPG group aswell), I get the following error in the log: Failed to create propagation share with exception - System.IndexOutOfRangeException: Index was outside the bounds of the array. at Microsoft.Office.Server.Utilities.WindowsSecurity.GetUserTokenFromCredentials(String userDomainName, String password, LogonType logonType) at Microsoft.Search.Administration.Security.CredentialManager.<>c__DisplayClass4`1.<RunAsAccount>b__3() On the page itself it says "Failed to configure propagation share". Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Hi Jos_: Can you confirm you had turn on Index server before Query Server. If yes then plz try starting Query Server using stsadm command stsadm -o osearch -action start -role query -defaultindexlocation c:\sharepointindexes -farmcontactemail mukesh@mukeshgiri.com Let us see how it goes ; if issue still persists please check if user account has local administration permissions. Also final trial you can give is by " select the option to not configure the share" ... Cheers,Best Regards, Mukesh Giri Sr.System Executive

Yes, the index server is up and running. I tried your command, but the share still didn't get setup. So I used the option to not configure the share and set it up later using the command stsadm -o osearch -propagationlocation "C:\SearchIndexShare" That seems to work. Thanks for the input!

Please don't propose your own posts as answers. It wastes everyone's time. WAIT for someone else to propose your posts and in turn propose the good posts of *other* people. Moderator (and in this case the OP said "I tried your command, but ..." so your post was hardly the solution. Even if it was, wait for someone else to mark in future.) P.S. and a post that just says "Great, you are welcome" is a waste of space on the page. Hi jos, If the Search server was removed from the farm and re-added then you need to delete the folder Applications that is created by default by a search only server at the location c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Servers\12.0\Data\Office Server\ or you could give a location for the Query Server Index File Location where the folder does not exist. If the folder location you give is there previously you will get the error. You can try to delete the Application folder, check whether you could start the service on the Search Service. Hope this helps. Rock WangRock Wang MSFT
