Stopping a form submission once a user has entered their details

Hi.

I'm building a number of custom lists where I'm giving users the opportunity to register their interest in a volunteering opportunity.

What I'm looking to do is once the user fills out their details and submits the form it prevents any other users from submitting their details for the same list/form.

So.

User 1 - fills out form and submits.
User 2 - Can still see the form and the details but cannot submit the form.

Is there any rule that can do this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Rodney- you can do this if you have InfoPath. You would create a rule to disable the form after submission. Other than that, you'd probably have to hide the menu bar for the list so the Add Item doesn't show and create your own submit button. Then you'd have to use code to hide that button after the first entry.

I'm a little confused on this.  The form is always present and will allow new users to add new list items based on the form, even once the first person has submitted an item.

Are you looking to lock down the list to prevent further entries to it once the first entry is in or do you want to lock down each user submitted entry to prevent further editing post submission.

I can think of a workflow solution for both scenarios but would appreciate some clarifications.
