Hi, I wrote some time ago a blog post explaining how to install back-end and front-end server. You can follow these steps there: http://patricklamber.blogspot.com/2010/01/sharepoint-server-2007-on-windows.html Installing the index server is similar to the web-front end. The difference is that you only have to join the farm that you previously created. This is a starting point for installing the SharePoint Server 2007, however, you want find detailed configuration steps there. br, patrick follow my blog http://patrick.lamber.blogspot.com to get additional tips and information about SharePoint, Project and ASP.NET

Hi Patrick, thanks for the response, here are my assumptions to configure index server, please correct me if i am wrong.. I guess in front end server i should not start the following services OfficeSharePointServerSearch WindowsSharePointServicesSearch And after installing MOSS 2007 on Index server Box (by selecting add to existing server farm node) i should start the both above services in this index server box only not in main front end server. And in main front end server i have to create SSP after starting above services inside index server and in SSP Edit Properties, i have to choose my index server from dropdown . Index Server option in SSP with dropdown Select the index server which will crawl content in all Web applications associated with this SSP. Specify the path on the index server where the indexes will be located.
