Hi, Is it possible to have a tablix in your report that does not connect to any dataset? I want to use a tablix to easily format all my textboxes and parameters in a tabular layout. I can also do it without a tablix, I was wondering if it is possible to have a static tablix. Thanks. AM

You can have a tablix without a dataset,after dragging and dropping the tablix onto your wokr tab then click the Cancel button when prompted to specify a data set.This will work, but when you go to Preview you will get an error. To avoid this you can create a data set that is simply SELECT '' Hope this helpsDavid Dye

This is really just a work-around. And for this empty dataset to work you need a data source. Both are unnecessary. A tablix should not need a dataset to work and a dataset should not need a datasource to work. Those are all assumptions based on common use and probably prevent a lot of problems but they also limit the use of the tablix and dataset without reason. So if you want a static tablix and use only shared datasets for your data, you would need to create an additional dataset AND datasource in your report just to make it work. :(
