Starting Word from SharePoint fails
I created a content type for a new document with a template. When I select the option from the library dropdown menu it opens the template in Word, but an error message pops up saying "Microsoft Office Word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install the application." From the start menu I can start Word just fine. How can I get this to work from SharePoint? Thanks, Len

I am having the exact same issue now. I am using Sharepoint as part of Team Foundation Server, and I get the same error whether I access the file from Team Explorer or the Sharepoint site. I can start Word normally and open and edit documents with no problem.I looked at recent updates and the only thing from today was a Windows Defender update. I'm using Vista Enterprise and Word 2007.

Can you verify that the user you are using to log into your Sharepoint environment has enought rights on your local desktop. one way to check it is 1. add this user into local admin group 2. try to open this template

Yes, for my part I can verify that my user account (an AD account) is a local administrator. I also verified that:a) my coworkers can open these files and more interestingly: b) I can open files that were added to SharePoint by the Team Foundation Server directly. That is, TFS creates a SharePoint site and adds a bunch of files. I can edit these files just fine, but files that I added result in the error mentioned in the OP when I try to edit them

In my case neither the administrator or an account I use when not admin would work. I logged in as the not admin account and installed Office 2007 providing an admin account and password when prompted. It works now for the not admin user and I haven't tried it for the admin account (maybe I'll have to log in as the administrator and install it again )

We were having this same issue on some desktops. We noticed that the individuals that were working had some InfoPath files on the client. Not sure how/why they were there since we chose not to install InfoPath. We did a full install of InfoPath on a couple of individuals that were not working and it fixed the issue.Hope this helps.

Wish we knew what the problem is. I have same problem. I am running as administrator and have installed Office 2007. I can successfully bring up Word 2007 documents (when running Word directly). A Word document is registered as a template content type so it is a drop-down select when I do "new" on a SharePoint document library. The document template comes up in a window, then, I get this error: Microsoft OFfice Word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install the application.I read on a post it has something to do with Microsoft's checking for non registered Office versions. I reinstalled Office and used the keys from MSDN. I still see this issue. Very frustrating and is impacting my delivery of SharePoint.Anybody know what gives? There must be some bothersome out of synch setting?

When you reinstalled Office, did you make sure that the Microsoft SharePoint support component was checked? It may be under the Shared Office components. You can also try un-registering the owssupp.dll file by typing "regsvr32 -u owssupp.dll" in the run line. Then "regsvr32 owssupp.dll" to re-register it.

I am getting the exact same problem here. Getting this error message when chosing a new Word document using a Document template in MOSS 2007. The error doesn't happen if I create a new Word document directly from Word. It only happens when creating a new document from within the Sharepoint library. Actually, it also does it for Excel and PowerPoint. The weird part is that it's not giving the error when creating a new document from within the "My site" in Sharepoint. So, basically the exact same symptoms as the others who posted here.

It turns out that this problem is caused by a missing DLL. The DLL in question is ipedintl.dll and it should usually be in the following folder: ProgramFiles\Microsoft Office\Office12\1033\ (or another folder if you're using Office in another language). For some reason, on many of our computers, this DLL file had not installed properly and even uninstalling and reinstalling Office would not install this DLL. We copied this file from another computer that was working and the problem was fixed. Moderator Note: NEVER propose your own posts as answer. Has your problem really only just been solved by you just over a *year* later ? Like JDMMC suggests. When using "Document Template" with sharepoint Contentypes: Add feature to Office: "Miscrosoft Office" / "Microsoft Office InfoPath" / "Form Template Installer Tool"
