Start button and some touch screen functionality not working on Toshiba Portege Z30t 4G upgraded to Windows 10
I forgot to add that I can right click the start button but left clicking produces a change in colour but no response. All the installed shortcuts on the task bar work with a left click. Nothing happens when I right click them. Cheers Warren

Hi, I upgraded my Toshiba Portege Z30t 4G laptop recently (product number PT24AA-010001). Immediately after the upgrade everything worked very smoothly.

Since then (possibly due to a subsequently installed system patch etc) I have lost some critical functionality which greatly affects my use of the computer.computer. Most importantly, I cant bring up the Start menu either by using the mouse, the touch screen or the Windows keys on the keyboard. Though the touchscreen seems to be working for most normal operations such as scrolling, pointing and moving items, the specific Windows commands such as swiping in from the right to bring up the system menu and other Windows related functions are not functioning.

Not being able to bring up the start menu means that I only have access to the software I previously installed on the Taskbar before the upgrade.

I have to take the laptop on an important business trip in two weeks. I would gratefully appreciate some help to restore the machine to its normal functionality. Cheers Warren

Hi WarrenSalomon,

"Since then (possibly due to a subsequently installed system patch etc) I have lost some critical functionality "
Do you mean the Windows 10 work well untill a recent update?

Please check the update history for any failed updates.
We could run "dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth" to check the health of system files.

If the issue occurred recently, we could perform a system restore to recover the machie to a previous normal point.

Best regards

Hi MeipoXu

Thanks for the very good advice. I ran the restore health check and this did not find any problems.

I then ran system restore to the first point after the Windows 10 upgrade. This restored my Start Button and swipe functionality (to bring up Windows settings etc).

Does this mean that Windows will now try to reinstall these updates again thus wiping out the Start button functionality I have now got back?

Thanks for your help.

Cheers, Warren
