Start Menu not working on Windows 10 build 10240 after official launch

Hi,

I am opening this thread with a lot of hope as i couldn't find any correct solution of this problem anywhere on google. It seems developers have faced the same issue on Windows 10 Insider previews launched before but still not rectified on officially launched build 10240.

I was using Windows 7 before i upgraded it to Windows 10 build 10240 through Media Creation Tool x64 launched by Microsoft on 29th July 2015. I had also reserved my copy a month ago, but dint got any upgrade notification on my system on 29th so went for manual upgradation.

On first boot after Windows 10 installed, the Start Menu was working & i took a feel of the new start menu.I rebooted my system after 10mins & since then the start menu has gone & is not opening any more.Infact, the left click is not working on any icon on taskbar including Start menu, Search icon, New message notification icon, Date & time, WIFI icon, battery or sound icon. Only Task Veiw button seems to work on left click. None of them are opening until i right click on them. Also, i am not getting any kind of error message on system.

I have tried a few tweeks like:  "sfc /scannow" & found no integrity violation. Also, i have tried PowerShell command : "Get-StartApps | measure" & my app shortcut count is 167, far less than 512 defined i suppose.

My region is India but i have already set my region to En-US. Please help!

I've got the same problem, and it would seem none of the former methods of correcting the issue work. Using Sfc /scannow I do detect corrupted files, but the Sfc program can't fix them. Entering into safe mode has proven to be excessively difficult.

Just after one day of use the start menu, modern apps, and Cortana have failed.

Hi,

From the description, Start menu and Taskbar both work improperly.

First please try a reboot to see if it is a temp issue.

If issue still exists, please help test to create a new account and logon with that account to see if issue persists. Personally I think it could related to user profile so a new account or a new profile may help in this situation.

Hi,

Please test to boot into Safe Mode to see if the left key issue still exists.

To boot into Safe Mode, reboot and keep pressing F8 until a list provided for choosing Safe Mode.

If issue does not occur in Safe Mode, please check any application running in Normal Mode - specifically antivirus application. Uninstall or disable it temporarily to see if issue still exists.

Also if your Windows 10 is already activated, if it is acceptable, you can also perform a clean install which should give us a proper system.

I have the same problem. After upgrade from  Windows 7, the start menu worked for a while then suddenly no longer works. I think some type of windows 10 update must have caused this. And NO I am not going to create a new account, delete this one or anything remotely like that. If Microsoft can't fix, this I will have to revert to Windows 7. this should have been fixed BEFORE Windows 10 was distributed widely. I upgraded a Windows 8 laptop to windows 10 and don't have this problem. I suspect the Windows 7 upgrade has a problem.

I have the exact same problem.  I upgraded from 8.1.  It worked for a few days then stopped.  I've tried all the solutions I can find: sfc /scannow, the powershell thing, the disim things, etc.  I also don't want to create a new user or do a refresh and have to reinstall my applications, etc.  There simply must be a fix that doesn't require that.

left click is not working on any icon on taskbar

Only Task Veiw button seems to work on left click

Try using Narrator for clues about what you should be seeing and as a potential workaround.
