Standalone USB media not detected after TS restarts

I have a Win 7 build with 3 restarts. The problem seems to occur when imaging computer models with card-reader drives. After the first restart in the task sequence the standalone USB media is not detected and the message "Please insert media #1 for the task sequence" is displayed. When I F8 to console and browse drives using notepad I the standalone USB media cannot be seen. At this stage I remove and reinsert the USB media then refresh and it appears. Then I click OK on the "Please insert media #1" prompt and the task sequence continues. Then after the next restart the same thing occurs again.

I've tried a few different computer models and it's pretty much happening on all computers with card-readers. I've also tried many different USB media and different OSD task sequences all with the same results.

The additional interaction necessary to complete the process is causing problems. Any suggestions on how to resolve this would be much appreciated.

Are you using connecting to USB 3.0 ports on the machines? Do you have USB 3 drivers included in the boot image and as well in the drivers package. May be issue with the USB 3.0 drivers.

Thanks for the reply. You're right about one thing, it does only occur when using USB 3.0 ports but all the correct drivers are definitely included. Given that the issue occurs for every USB 3.0 port across every computer model we have suggests more of a compatibility issue. Can anyone confirm that their stand-alone media created via SCCM 2007 using USB 3.0 keys and ports completes without this prompt being displayed after a mid-TS restart?

Hi,

Same issue here, I'm deploying Windows 7 x64 to a Lenovo W530 and no matter what USB port I use, the "Please insert media #1 for the task sequence:<tsname here> and then click OK." Comes up after the "Installing devices" reboot.

 When I bring up CMD and check the mounted disks with DISKPART, the USB media is missing. In my case the drivers for the Intel USB 3.0 are installed correctly and re-inserting the USB media does make it recognize the drive without problems and enables me to continue the TS.

It is not a general USB 3.0 incompatibility that I am sure of. I have other Lenovo models using the same intel USB 3.0 drivers and underlying hardware (Intel USB 3.0 series 7 and 8 both work on the majority of the models) running the same TS, and complete without the problem described above.

two things;

1. USB 3 drivers in the boot image

2. USB 3 drivers in the driver package.

If you have USB drivers in the boot image, the task sequence will apply the image and drivers then reboot. If the driver package missing USB 3 drivers, then after the device drivers reboot, the TS wont see the USB drive or Media then it will prompt for it.

1/ make sure you have correct drivers in the boot image & driver package (I know you guys said you have)

2/ Update the DP's
