Staff Mysites profile pages not showing for individual's accounts but showing for everyone else in Sharepoint 2007.
We're finding that when staff try to open their profile pages an error message appears but other people's profile pages open with no problems at all. For example when Jimmy Tan tries to open http://guinan/MySite/Person.aspx?accountname=GLEPS\JimmyTin he sees an error message saying 'An unexpected error has occurred. Troubleshoot issues with Windows SharePoint Services. ' We've tried copying person.aspx into the root folder of a new directory but with no joy. We're using Sharepoint 2007. Any ideas anyone?

Hi, Anything's there in logs and event viewer? Also is there any recent activity done in the farm after what the issue has been surfaced (maybe some patch or service pack upgrade)? Regards, Rohan

Hi Rohan, how can we access 'logs and event viewer'? The issue surfaced last week. I wonder if it was triggered by a Windows update. Has anyone else using windows 2007 had similar issues?

WFE server's event viewer will give you the event information; and forlogs, you need to check the ULS logs on server. Default location for logs is c:\program files\common files\Microsoft shared\web server extensions\12\logs] I hope you are the system admin for sharepoint as only admins have access to the servers. What exactly is the error message that users are getting? Also is it global and is causing for all the users? Are there any users to whom its working fine? What other users look at is the shared page of the mysite. For individual user, when they try to access their own mysite, its theit personal version which can not be opened by any other user. So there might be a problem with any webpart on their personal view page preventing the page from loading. Regards, Rohan

The error message is 'An unexpected error has occurred. Troubleshoot issues with Windows SharePoint Services. ' and yes, it appears that everyone is having the same problem: they can't view their own profile but can see everyone else's. I doubt that there's an issue with webparts on the page as the problem appeared to start about week ago. The person.aspx file hasn't been changed at all within the last month. Any ideas?

Hi, Try to check web part maintenance page in case error webpart cause this issue. How to open this page, please follow the below: Type the string “?contents=1” at the end of the url of the page. For example http://mysite/pages/default.aspx?contents=1 If it existed incorrect webpart, just delete it. Hope this helps Thanks! Stanfford

After much pondering I opened person.aspx in sharepoint designer. Then I right-clicked on the file and selected ' Reset to site definition' . This seems to have solved the issue. I think the problem was caused because I deleted a box towards the top-right of the page which determines who sees what. Thanks to to everyone for their help which helped guide us to a solution.
