Sorting library items in subfolders by parent folders
I'm trying to create a web part that sorts items in subfolders according to their parent folders. I changed the Folder Scope to show all files and all subfolders, but any sorting method I use in SPD lists all the subfolders first and then all the files. How can I sort the library to show a folder name, then all the items in the folder, and another folder, than all that folder's items, and so forth?

Hi JJ1966,

I would like suggest you to use Group by document by each subfolder instead. Here is the detail step.

  1. Change Folder Scope from Show All Files And All Subfolders of All Folders to Show All Files of All Folders.
  2. Click Sort & Group button on SharePoint Designer ribbon > Add Path field > Enable Show group header > OK.
  3. Done.

Thanks & Regards,
Emir

Thanks. That's exactly what I wanted, except that the paths in the group headers are somewhat long. I used jQuery to shorten them to just the names of the subfolders - I first tried modifying the XSL to do that but the changes wouldn't stick in SPD.
