Sorting Rules in Authoring View
Hello I have SCOM 2012 and when im in the Authoring View / Managment Packs / Tasks view and try to sort by clicking on the "Created" headder. When I click on that it sorts the MP's inside the "Name" headder. I understand that behavior but its still a bit frustrating because there are quite a few custom rules created in my environment and I need to document them. I am unable to find a good way of finding them besides scrolling thru the list. I can type the name of the custom MP/Rule in the "Look For" but that only works if I know what the name of the MP or Rule is. I see all 4,869 Tasks currently in my installation but my question is, how do I sort them ALL by date? (regardless of the Type SCOM sorts them in) I cannot personalzie the view. Thanks in advance Zach Zach

Sorting in SCOM has always been an problem. Think about Reports, when you are picking objects, etc. I don't understand why many of these things have not been fixed, but I am guessing that they are low on the priority list. Having said that, in order for us to find anything we do custom (MP's, groups, rules, monitors, etc) I append things to them. When I make MP's I add the following tags: MY MP (CSTM) = custom MP MY MP (OVRD) = Override MP MY MP (KNWL) = override mp containing knowledge MY MP (VIEW) = custom views mp containing only views When we create rules/monitors I apply my groups or our companys name to the name of the rule/monitor Processor % Util Monitor (MSFT) For groups, I will add (CSTM) or (OVRD) or (VIEW) to know that they are in one of those MP's then in the DESCRIPTION I put: This group is stored in XYX Management pack. Makes managing your environment a LOT easier. This is my naming structure, but I suggest you make your own and or copy this so that you too can easily locate all of your custom stuff.Regards, Blake Email: mengotto<at>hotmail.com Blog: http://discussitnow.wordpress.com/

Thanks Blake, apprecite the suggestion. I do (now) use a custom naming convention. Do you have any idea how I can locate all rules created after 4/13/2012? ZachZach
