Software Version Summary
Hi all, I would like to see which computers have each version of a particular software installed. In past I've created collections like "VLC media player 1.0.3", "VLC media player 1.0.4", and done it that way. The problem is that I'm unsure of which versions of "VLC media player" are out there to begin with. So I would like a list to work off of, created by configuration manager. Any idea of how to get this accomplished? I figure there must be a way.

One quick way to reference this could be to use the reports. You can expand "Software - Companies and Products" and select "All inventoried products for a specific software company". After you provide the company name click on "Display" and you will see the products for that company and the assocviated version. Keep in mind that some companies often have inconsistency in their naming. To determine if there are multiple company names in the database I would suggest using a wildcard with the name to start (i.e. %Microsoft%) and then click on "Values".Josh Mueller http://joshuasmueller.wordpress.com

Thanks Josh, that helped a lot and completely took care of the issue for me.

Also, if you were using the Asset Intelligence reports, report "Software 6A" lets you put in parts of the name, which then gives you a list of all the products that match that, and number of installs.Regards, Tom Watson, E-Mail: Tom_...@... Blog: http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/tom_watson
