Software Update Deployment Packages won't distribute to DPs in ConfMgr 2012 R2

After updating System Center 2012 Configuration Manager to R2 we have problems distributing SU Deployment Packages to the distribution point. Some packages work on some DPs, others do not work at all. We are not able to find any pattern.

The Site Server and all DPs run on Windows Server 2008 R2 and the log entries in the smsdpprov.log look always like this:

The virus scanner (SCEP) realtime protection has been disabled. No backup agent or anything else is running.

We remove the packages from the DPs, waited until there was no activity in the log files, started distributing to single server, same result.

The DPs worked fine with ConfMgr 2012 and ConfMgr 2012 SP1.

I also looks as if the problem is isolated to SU Packages and does not happen for Applications or Packages.

Does anyone, have any idea?

Thank you

Sascha

Hi,

The error code 0x80070005 = "ACCESS DENIED."

0x800700b7= "Cannot create a file when that file already exists."

Please check the permissions on the package folder in SCCMContent\Datalib\<package>.

Hi,

I already gave Full Permission to everyone to no Change.

I set up a new DP yesterday afternoon. Brandnew Windows Server 2012 R2, nothing on it and I am getting the same Errors (0x800700b7) for every update in the package:

Do u have any antivirus software installed on those servers? if yes, try excluding DP related folder from realtime monitoring. Also if you've installed firewall software as port of antivirus software.

When we updated to 2012 R2 we didn't try to distribute anything but when we tried to deploy things and received issues accessing the content on DP's. We found that Anonymous Authentication was turned off in the DP settings in the console and in IIS. Turning that back on fixed everything. You should also check, just for good measure, that the DP's have the site server in their Admin group.

Doesn't sound like this is exactly what you're seeing since you alluded to things working sporadically but just figured I'd let you know some of the things we saw when upgrading to R2 with relation to DP issues.

Hello,

thank you for your replies. Unfortunately no solution amongst them.

- AV had been turned off or is not installed.

- Firewall had been turned off.

- Anonymous authentication is turned on in IIS

- Site Server is local admin on the DPs

Sascha

Yes, I know this is an old post, but Im trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?

Since no one has answer this post, I recommend opening  a support case with CSS as they can work with you to solve this problem.

Hello,

I apologize for not posting the solution. I eventually figured it out. We needed to lower the concurrent distribution settings in the "Software Distribution Component Properties" under "Configure Site Components".

Both values "Maximum number of packages" and "Maximum threads per packages" are now set to 5 and  1 respectively which brought everything back.
