Software Metering - Data Mismatch

Hello,

valid data is not coming out from software metering default reports, We've enabled software metering this year at 27th February for AutoCad application.

I do understand that Data report backs to server after every 7 days (by default) and there are many users who opens AutoCad application regularly but their information is not coming on Default Reports!! Some thing which doesn't make sense, am i missing anything here or what went wrong... Not sure?

Is there any other customize way (Like any SQL query) we can get the Data.

What do you mean by "data mismatch"? Is there data at all or not? What makes you think that the rule is 100%correct?

Hello Garth,

Thanks for replying, appreciate it.

regarding 1st question "data mismatch" - what i am trying to say that Default reports which gives data is different then the actual reality, I've AutoCad guy who is using application almost every single day, but his detail on report is not updated.

For eg: As per the report he used AutoCad last 24th April but as i said he is using this application almost daily is not reflecting on report.

regarding 2nd question " Is there data at all or not?" - Yes there is data available on report but like above situation (there are 3 more such cases) I am not sure i should trust on report or not !!

regarding 3rd question "What makes you think that the rule is 100%correct?" - Rule is 100% correct because i do follow the instruction mentioned on below blog:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/neilp/archive/2012/11/27/software-metering-deep-dive-and-automation-part-1-use-it-or-lose-it-the-basics.aspx

I attaching the screen shot as well, just to make little more clarity :

other than this Garth I also gone through below mentioned TechNet Forum:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/bd15f63d-ba57-4373-9f5b-719ab0cc4a65/regarding-software-metering-determining-the-file-name-and-the-original-file-name?forum=configmanagergeneral

You've mentioned few good lines there :-

  • How often the data is returned to CM12 site server, The default is 7 days.
  • SWM report: some of the report will not work until there is over 30 days of data and it has been summarized.
  • The site server summaries the data every 7 days, therefore in worse case it take 44 days to get just the 1st day worth of data.
  • If you want a full month worth of data then you need to wait 74 days, With this little amount of data it doesnt make sense to make any decisions so you need 90 days worth of data or 90 days (data) + 30 days (report summarization) + 7 days (site server summation task) + 7 day (client reporting) or 134 days.

Could you please tell what exactly you mean by 3rd bullet point.

Kindly let me know in case if there is something wrong you find.

After Querying the Database we've found discrepancies related to version of the application.

Hence updated the Rule, Now on Rule, at version field, I placed a wild card * (asterisk) but not sure when would i get the new data ? Or how much time it will take Software Metering to provide the new data, though knowing the fact that machines reports back to 7 days and

It can take 7 days to get the data return.

Garth Jones Thanks for reply, Appreciate it.

I will wait for 7 days and update our findings... Mean while, could you please clear what exactly Below meaning, mentioned by you, on an old Post:

Just want to know which those reports youre specifying?

On what basis above calculation you specify?

I know this is too much we're asking here but before coming into 'Software metering' we were into SNOW application for all this, So this is little new for us to use.

  1. I would have to look up the report but they are the one with Monthly in the title.
  2. What doesn't make sense to you about that statement?
  3. That calculation is one the Max  time it could take to get full data.

Garth,

After waiting more then 7+ days we've got the Data, which is looking Good as compared to previous but still there is confusion.

We've noticed that... Few users who are using application on daily basis, hence their utilization of the application also comes on daily basis on report.

For example: Here we've 5 users who are using application on daily basis, but on Report their entry mentioned only once (every Thursday when machines reports back to server) Ideally we should have Application utilization data for each day on Report (as they are using application daily) but it is not..?

I hope you understand what i am trying to s

If the user open AND CLOSES the app every day you will see that within CM12. But if they open it and leave it open you will see that it is open and the usage will continue until they close it and therefore report back to CM12 after it has closed.

Every thing is working OK now. It Just we need to give little time to the Data at site Database.

Older the Data, more precise information we have.

Thanks Garth for your time !

Appreciate it!!!
