Software Inventory reporting - No results / Empty.

Good day.

I need your help. We are facing an issue with the software inventory reporting to some of the clients on our SCCM 2012 R2 deployment. We get no results on report query for a Software inventory.

Three weeks ago it is working. Suddenly it stopped working.

Here are the issues:

1. When we check client though Resource Explorer, the items were striked out.

2. There are no results on Report query Software 02E Installed software on a specific computer.

I've read various posts with identical description, Checked logs on server and client, checked AI settings, manually run HW and SW inventory cycle, Client settings, and Hardware inventory classes but to no avail.

Please help. Thanks in advance

It's impossible to help without knowing an error or something like that. The reports would display data if everything was working as expected.

What exactly do you have set for you AI classes? Post a screenshot.

@Garth,

We have enabled all AI classes. Also checked SMS_InstalledExecutable and SMS_InstalledSOftware on hardware inventory classes at client settings

@Torsten,

Here are some errors I have seen taken from the logs of client and CM server

Client errors:
1. InventoryProvider.log - Could not load logging configuration

2. InventoryProvider.log - GetObjectAsync - Error handling request, 8004100f

3. InventoryAgent.log - Inventory: 1 Collection Task(s) failed.

4. InventoryAgent.log - Collection Class "SMS_FolderRedirectionHealth" does not exisst

Don't look for errors, trace the mif file, when you can't find it any more, that is likely where the issue is.
May 27th, 2014 11:26pm

Garth,

I've checked the last move of MIF file to \dataldr.box\process\ folder. However, It doesnt appear.

Looking for HSEA1MXG.mif at E:\Microsoft Configuration Manager\inboxes\auth\dataldr.box\process\ folder

No HSEA1MXG.mif file seen.

When you look on my first post. Its shows that last Resource Explorer inventory was on 5/6/2014.

I wonder why this is happening. Since we have set the hardware/software inventory to run every other day.

Also why is it striked?

May 28th, 2014 1:40am

I also noticed my last successful hardware and software inventory was on May 06, 2014 to all clients.

I changed my Inventory setting was Every 2 days.

Search for the computer name within the log file. Do you see it?

Do you have any files under the bad folder?

No setting your inventory to daily will not be the problem.

That tell me that the PC submitted it inventory correctly to the CM12 database.

Check that the PC does NOT exist twice within the all system collection.

Check that the last inventory date is today, found under the Hardware inventory node and not the History node.

BTW 80 Bad MIF is generally not consider a lot. I would just delete all of them.

May 28th, 2014 9:49pm

Garth,

PC doesnt exist twice on the device collection.

Meanwhile, looking at resource explorer, I can only see 3 property areas for hardware inventory.

Why does this happen? what probably cause this?

This also what can be seen to other PC's resource explorer

Please help.

What changes to inventory did you make about 3 weeks ago?
May 29th, 2014 5:35am

Hi Garth,

We haven't, made any changes to Client Settings HW/SW schedule 3 weeks ago. It just that we can't get reports anymore.

Meanwhile I think, every single PC being logged on dataldr.log now returns software report. :)

Here are the changes done on May 28,2014.
  1. Reinstall Management Point
  2. Manual synchronize Asset Intelligence point
  3. Monitor inventoried computers on dataldr.log
  4. Re-schedule Asset Intelligence Synchronization. Occurs every 1 day. Effective 5/30/2014 10:00 AM
  5. Re-schedule HW & SW inventory. Occurs every 1 day. Effective 5/30/2014 2:00 PM

Garth, What do you think? is the schedule fine?

Thanks

No I don't think the schedule is right.

  1. turn off SW inventory. Or change it to simple schedule every 14 days!
  2. Make SW inventory a simple Schedule

There is clearly a policy issue if you only have so few classes listed within your HW inventory. So Add a new HW inventory class to see if thing get reset?

Hi Garth,

Yes, I think so the schedule isn't coping up. Last time we got 23 inventoried clients and the next day it became 8.

We will look up items you recommended.

Thanks.

Hi Garth,

We still has no progress.
On your questions:

1 Did you reset the HW inventory policy?
- What we did was just create another policy. 1 for HW inventory and 1  for SW inventory

2 Are more PCs showing up in the database?

- No, It has been stuck, not all users were inventoried. What do you mean by HW inventory policy reset?
Thanks

Since no one has answer this post, I recommend opening  a support case with Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS) as they can work with you to solve this problem.
