Software Inventory not gathering defined data
I have the Software Inventory set up so that it should inventory *.exe, and *.dll and some other specific files, but when I look at File Details in the Resource Explorer, I only see a short list of files on any given computer. I even tried setting up some
more specific rules to gather the data (like winword.exe), but that isn't working either. I have given it plenty of time to gather the data (going on 3 weeks now). Is there some sort of limitation that doesn't allow gathering data from active programs or something
like that? I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong......
oh.... using SCCM 2012 R2

Have you looked at a client's log files, specifically inventoryagent.log ? is it timing out? any errors?

I had a few clients do a new scan and there were no timeouts or errors in the inventoryagent.log file
There are some errors and warning in several of the other log files, but I'm not sure where to begin with the logs..... I've been dealing with system center for all of a month now.

I suggest you manually run the Software Inventory cycle in the SCCM Applet of Control Panel, then observe the log inventoryagent.log, FileSystemFile.log.
