I am having a problem with the Software update section of System Center Essentials 2007. When a software package is deployed and the client computer begins the reboot, it will freeze on the two windows thatstate, "Updates being installed (1 of 1) / "Do not turn off or unplug your computer, it will turn off automatically" Well it never turns off.The client test machines have stayed in the state for up to 4 hours before I manually turn them off. The software installation is successfull, but the computer never shuts down. Does anyone have any suggestions about why they are not restarting? Hi Scott. It looks like the application is forcing a reboot before the Automatica Updates agent knows that the install is done. Are you adding any installation parameters to the software package? Is this app available for download so I can try to reproduce this?

Jimmy,The software is the Office 2007 file converter. It is located at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=941B3470-3AE9-4AEE-8F43-C6BB74CD1466&displaylang=enI used the /passive command line extension when I created the package. I also made sure that our domain WSUS policy did not force a reboot.Scott Goldman

Scott, I just tested this using the /passive switch and at the end of the installation, I got a prompt where I had to click on OK to complete the installation. If this was being installed during a shut down (when the desktop is not loaded), that OK prompt would be waiting in the background and the install would never complete. I then created a package using /passive /quiet....this time the installation completed without any user input....can you try this and see if it resolves the problem? Also, rather than using FileFormatConverters.exe for the package, you can extract the .msi package from the .exe file (FileFormatConverters.exe /extract:<path>), then create a software package for the .msi file....MSI packages tend to be more reliable for silent installs, uninstall, and detection.

I have the same issue, but do not know which package is causing the problem. How to find out?
