Site link incorrect
I have a SharePoint 2007 portal with several sub-sites. All of the subsites work, except one, which gives an HTTP 404 error when trying to access its landing page from the menu bar. I can access all pages in the site when I type in the URL to access them
directly. I have noticed that when I click on the top menu, it points to a URL:
http://server/eventlog/Wiki%20Pages/Home.aspx
The correct page (which works fine) is:
http://server/eventlog/default.aspx
How can I change the menu bar item to point to the correct landing page?

Hi,
Go to Site action > Site settings
Under Look and Feel you will get "Welcome page" option
Click on that option and check URL of welcome page.
If its a sub site then check Site Action > Site Settings
Under Look and Feel find for Top Link Bar and check the url
Just change the url over there and then try to browse the site again
Hope this will be helpfulRegards, Pratik Vyas | SharePoint Consultant | http://sharepointpratik.blogspot.com/

On the sub-site\Site Settings I do have a "Navigation" option, but no "Welcome Page" or "Top Link Bar" option.
In the "Navigation" link here, I can only edit the URLs to the links.
If I do this from the main site, I can see the option that I need to change under "Global Navigation", but the edit button is greyed out. I am logged in as the Domain Administrator...the same account used to install SharePoint.
Any suggestions?

ok,
do you have sharepoint designer ?
if yes then you can open the site in designer and make default.aspx as a default page.
Or
Under global navigation if you get grayed out edit option then you can add new tab (New heading) and add -
http://server/eventlog/default.aspx
If this will work then you can delete the old tab which gives you error

Hello,
why not use appending topnav.aspx at the end??
i.e. try to hit the top navigation URL directly; so you need to hit the URL
http://server/eventlog/_layouts/topnav.aspx
then edit the menu item which you want. see if it works.. :)Regards, Rohan

Even though this discussion is fairly aged, just in case someone else comes back to it looking for an answer to the question posed, and finds the existing answers a bit confusing. For WSS 3.0 / MOSS 2007, here is the path you need to take:
From the Parent Site, choose 'Site Actions' > 'Site Settings' > 'Top Link Bar'
This should present you a list of all the subsites within parent site. Click the 'Edit' icon next to the subsite for which the your top link bar is broken and update the URL and / or description as necessary.
