Site Usage Report
Hi All,Our Site Usage Details report (_layouts/ SpUsageWeb.aspx), displaying the daily user report, shows a few days where Requests are zeroes This is incorrect as there were users in the IIS logs. Please suggest what to do in this situation and how to get the report again with correct data. We have checked the following things 1. Configuration of Usage Analysis, which is enabled. 2. Checked the event log for Job failed error or Database connection error occurred during the time when report is showing 0 users. Logs do not have any error during that time. Thanks,Neetuneetu

Hello Neetu, Please try to clear the SharePoint configuration cache and restart timer job. Then, test the issue again. There is a blog that you could refer to: Clear the SharePoint Configuration Cache for Timer Job and PSCONFIG errors http://blogs.msdn.com/josrod/archive/2007/12/12/clear-the-sharepoint-configuration-cache-for-timer-job-and-psconfig-errors.aspx Let us know the result if possible. Thanks! Best Regards, Lionel

Hi Lionel, I will try this solution. Before trying this, I want to update you.I am not getting 0 users regular in SP usage report. only some days its showing 0 user.Today when i run the below query on ssp database. I observed that for those days reports showing 0 users, there is no record in result. means SQL is not fetching data for those days. Is this related to timer job?i.e. 11 dec report is showing 0 users there is no entry for 11 dec in table. But i have checked timer job status on 12 dec. it was successful. select a.fulldate, c.weburl, b.hits, b.uniqueusers, b.homepagehits, b.homepageuniqueusersfrom anlday as a inner join anlhistoricalwebusage as bon a.dayid = b.dayid inner join anlweb as c on b.webguid = c.webguidorder by a.fulldate descneetu

Hello Neetu, Have you examined the event logs and SharePoint logs? This sounds like an error and more information such as an error number or description could help us determine what might be going on in your environment. You can also use /_layouts/usagedetails.aspx to get an easier to read/see representation of what days are not recording correctly.Perhaps there is a noticable pattern.Hope this helps,Richard

Hello Richard,Thanks for your reply. I have checked the event viewer and moss logs. There are no error related to usage report or owstimer. Thanks,Neetuneetu

Haha there should be no errors in the event log at all ;)Thank you for checking though. Sometimes something that can seem unrelated might be the reason for why this is happening. So if you have any errors in there I would suggest resolving them.About a year ago I remember experiencing a very similar problem and can't remember how we resolved it. I do know that restarting the server (and services) made it go away for a time before coming back though. Does yours follow a similar pattern?

Hi,Do anybody know how to start timer job" Office SharePoint Usage Analytics Log Import" forcefully? Thanks,Neetuneetu

You want to specifically start a timer job? (Not just a restart of the service etc)You could do this with the API and a small script. Found this one: http://www.sharepointblogs.com/teameli/archive/2008/10/02/powershell-script-start-custom-timer-job-out-of-schedule.aspxHaven't tested so im not sure how well it will work but you could give it a try,Richard

Hi there,I spoke to MS and this issue seems to related to a bug in MOSS. The following is the email from the MS consultant Problem description:=================The data in SpUsageWeb.aspx dont match the data in the UsageDetails.aspx page. Cause:=================It is very like a known issue of the Site Usage Report. The symptom is as below: The usage log could be written into 00.log file in previous day folder.Depends on when you did the above operation, the access log may be wrongly written to 00.log file inthe previous day folder.(Folder nameis 2009-MM-DD (Which "DD" could be previous day of today) If you did operation at GMT time Yesterday(For Tokyo time,it is time before AM 9:00),it will write to 00.log file in folder of Yesterday)If you didoperation at GMT Today(For Tokyo time, it is timeafter AM 9:00), it will write to 00.log file in folder of Today. Plan:==================The issue is fixed in the Aprils Service Pack, which is going to be released. We are now testing the Service Pack and will update you once we finish the test. If no exception, I will send you the Service Pack early next week. Then you can try and see if the issue can be fixed by the Service Pack. Additional information:==================The _layouts/usagedetails.aspx page is still available in SharePoint 2007, although there is no link to it in the site settings page. If the Site Usage Report works properly, the data in the usagedetails.aspx should match the data in the SpUsageWeb.aspx.

(old thread, but for completeness)There was also a major Usage Log Analysis bug fixed in Service Pack 2

hi all, i have a similar problem but with a slight variety :) only 1 subsite is not showing correct data in the _layouts/SpUsageWeb.aspx page. the UsageDetails.aspx and SpUsageSite.aspx pages are showing data properly. i have checked the permissions on relevant log folders, and am not able to see any errors.... the settings must be ok becuase the usage analysis reports are working fine for all other sites / site collections and sub sites. any ideas ? regards,Adnan Shamim
