Site OCntent types and Site COlumns are not bein populated after saving site as template
Hi all, I have a site with 30 Site Columns and 9 Content Types.I just associated one content Type with a list in my site and remaining all content types are not assigned to any list.I have saved the site as template and deployed. After Successfully deploying the template ,i created a site from the new site template just created. In the newly created site. I did not get the site columns and Site Content types populated in galleries. But the content type that i associated with a list is displayed in New Menu of the list(Even that is not being displayed in the Galleries).Does this mean the content types have an issue....? while saving site as template...? NOTE: I am restricted to use only OOTB (No SPD or VS). please suggest any Solution

You are running into the problem that Site Columns and Content Types are limited and restricted to their SITE COLLECTION. They do not travel with the site template to another site collection unless you create a sub site within the same site collection as where they originated. SharePoint 2010 solves this problem by supporting Cross Collection Site Columns. If you're restricted to out of the box only, then upgrading to 2010 should be in your close future. :-)I trust that answers your question... Thanks C

Hi Van, Thank you very much for the valuable reply.Yes I do have a plan of migration to SP 2010 in the near future. But as of now what is the work around for me....?Does MS will leave the problem as it is? I don't think so....there should be some workaround for this.I am feeling that the Site Definition should solve the problem in MOSS 2007.What do you suggest..?Do you believe that Creating a custom Site Definition will solve my problem? or else if you have any other work around please direct me. Thanks,
