Site Design: Managing some computers on intranet, others on Internet
Hey everyone, I'm looking for validation or objections on this site design. I just started at a new company, and before I make this recommendation I want to have all my ducks in a row :). We currently have some intranet clients, and some internet only (never VPN in). We have roughly 2000 intranet, and 1500 internet. Right now, its setup with two primary site servers, (and 2 site codes) one inside the network, and one on the DMZ. Instead, I'm planning on suggesting something like this site design: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb693602.aspx Only 1 primary site server and 1 site code, and setup a secondary site on the DMZ. That secondary site would be setup with either a Proxy Management point or just a regular management point (what are the pros/cons of this?) and distribution point. Is there a need for a Software Update site in the DMZ? We're already running in native mode, so that hurdle is behind us. Thanks in advance! -Mike-Direwolf

Scenario 3 does not use a secondary site and there is no reason for you to use a secondary site (none of the IBCM scenarios use secondary sites). Secondary sites are used to provide service to systems across limited bandwidth links, not for isolated networks. Systems in the DMZ for scenario 3 are part of the primary site.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | Twitter @JasonSandys

Ahhh gotcha. So just setup a server with a DP and MP and we're good to go? Will we need a software update point out there? We definitely don't need a Primary Site with its own site code out there, right? Thanks Jason! -Direwolf

Correct on the no need for a copletely different primary site. As for a SUP, yes you will need one if you plan to dstribute updates to Internet based clients. MP is absolutely required. DP is required for Soft Dist.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | Twitter @JasonSandys
