I am logged-in as a Site Collection administrator, and have access to all the things I would expect as a SC Admin; but for some reason, when I go to the Site Collection Managed Properties (Site Settings, Search - Schema) - there is no New Managed Property button, and all the Managed Properties are read-only.

Does anyone know what might be causing this?

Hi David,

From your description, it seems that you are using SharePoint 2013.

In SharePoint 2013, when we access the Search Schema under Search category in Site Settings, the managed properties there are all read only and we cannot create new managed properties there.

To be able to create managed properties at site collection level, we need to access the Search Schema under Site Collection Administration category in Site Settings.
