Single Core CPU server for Distribution Point

Can anyone inform me wether or not it is possible to run a distribution point on a single core server

I know the recommendation is 2 cpu for distribution points, but we have some small offices around the world which does not have servers, and the plan was to buy some normal desktops and install server 2012 on then and have them serve as DP for that site. It should not be more than 20 client which connects to these DP's.

Is there any downfalls we should be aware of

Thankx

Hi Martin,

it is possible to install the DP on such a machine...but i would not advise you to do so.

The answer you should ask yourself is: Is it the right way?

Think about using distributed Branche Cache in these small sites!

Kind regards

Eric

I have thought about it, but i am mostly concerned about the amount of data which is placed on the clients.

Also would it be possible to use PXE boot when using Branch Cache

No downfall. That's pretty common and works very nicely. Don't expect great performance if you carry out imaging on multiple devices th

Different things. Branch cache has nothing to do with PXEboot. PXE requries WDS.

Thankx for the replies.

I will consider the options, but i think we will go with the standard computer with server 2012 as a DP on the smaller sites in order to give the option to PXE boot, should the need to do so be relevant
