Silverlight Road-map & crescent
Hi team. some of our IT guys asked me this question: "what is the silverlight roadmap in link with crescent". it is connotative with the silverlight roadmap question. so, is it going to be SL v6, V7 and so on? if not, is there a chance Crescent will be based on other technology? thanks, Gul

Crescent will require the current version of Silverlight when it ships and that will be Silverlight 5. Regards, Sean Program Manager, SQL Server Reporting Services This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. http://blogs.msdn.com/seanboon http://www.twitter.com/ssrs

Hi Gul, We are not ready to make any announcements beyond "Denali", and just to be crystal clear, that is not meant to be an endorsement of either technology. I would evaluate Crescent on the experience that we are investing in with regards to ad hoc query, reporting and visualization. -SeanProgram Manager, SQL Server Reporting Services This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. http://blogs.msdn.com/seanboon http://www.twitter.com/ssrs

Galgul, It sounds very weird to decide whether to upgrade to Denali based on the technology Crescent is built in. It could be a contributing factor, but if you have SharePoint already installed (remember it is a prerequisite for Crescent http://prologika.com/CS/blogs/blog/archive/2010/11/09/crescent-on-the-horizon.aspx), SilverLight is a a small concern. It is also cross-browser and cross-system compatible and your organisation will probably need to get SilverLight to everyone's desktop sooner or later anyway if it is going down the SharePoint + SQL Server BI path. I would simply assume Microsoft will continue developing Crescent in SilverLight and that it will require SL to be updated as new versions come out. Boyan Penev --- http://www.bp-msbi.com

Thank you sean. good news. My IT managers still wants to be sure about the road map, so will it still be in silverlight or moves to HTML5? It is very important before the board will make the decision to upgrade to denali or to wait for the next version of SQL. BR, Gul
