Shrinking LDF Files for MOSS content
I have a 60 gig mdf file and 150 gb ldf file for my main content database, i want to shrink my log file and i'm not concerned with restoring from a point in time right now. I followed the instructions here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/e96dc99f-d6ac-48ed-8427-691cb64015ce however my ldf file will not shrink, any suggestions on how to allocate some space? do i run any risks with running the shrink on the ldf files? thanks,

When you attempt to shrink the log file via Management Studio, how much free Available Free Space does it report? Also, confirm your database is set to Simple recovery model and the initial size of the log file is less than the current size of the log file. The point that abui raises regarding the simple recovery model is key here. I strongly recommend you check this and determine whether the simple recovery model is adequate for your organisation as it dramatically reduces DB size (at the expense of log backups). *EDIT: article here regarding simple recovery model http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms191164.aspx Benjamin Athawes - Twitter: @benjaminathawes - Blog: http://mossblogger.blogspot.com - Mail: mail at bathawes.com
