Should I use backup and restore?

Hi,

My domainserver (Windows Server 2008 R2) is currently running on RAID 1 with 2 disks.
Iam going to replace my old RAID card and disk with a RAID card that can run RAID 5 and 3 new disks.

After this Iam also installing Exchange 2013 on the server.

My question is:
Is the easiest/smartest way to get the same domain settings and server settings to backup the whole serevr/domain on a external disk and restore it after I made the change of RAID/Disks?
When that is done just install the Exchange.

Thanks!

If you are going to use existing RAID1 for system you can replace raid controller and import configuration. If your operating system drive is going to be replaced by RAID5 you have to make a Bare Metal backup/restore using some external drive (or network share).

Iam going to replace the SATA disks and RAID card (Since the current RAID card does not support RAID 5).

Is it wise to use restore or should I build the server from scratch?
