Sharepoint server not installed error
Hi geeks, Actually I installed Sharepoint server ie., MOSS 2007 in system (Windows server 2003) and am using Visual studio 2010 ultimate. When am add new Sharepoint connection to my Visual studio 2010 it throws me error "A Sharepoint server is not installed on this computer. A Sharepoint must be installed to work with Sharepoint projects.". I don't know what to do with it. Can you guys help me out to access my sharepoint site to my VS 2010. Thanks, Karthick.

Hi karthickalan, The project and item templates in Visual Studio 2010 only target SharePoint 2010.In my mind, project system is not compatible with SharePoint 2007. A developer in my team has tried to install VS2010 in his VPC with MOSS 2007 and he has troubles to work after. I advise you to continue on VS 2008 if it is possible. Good luck ! Hi VS2010 only connects to SP2010, There isnt any issue have MOSS 2007 installed and using VS2010 but you will not get the integration and the development experience will be like the development experience using VS2008... However, you can add WSPBuilder for SP2010 to build and deploy solutions for MOSS 2007 and SP2010.. -IvanIvan Sanders My LinkedIn Profile, My Blog, @iasanders.

I am having the same problem: error "a sharepoint server is not installed on this computer" using VS2010 to connect to SP2010 using Add Sharepoint Connection. My config: Client/VS2010 - Win7 SP2010 - Win Svr 2008 R2 Both machines on same workgroup, user name/pwd identical and added to SP. SP Designer 2010 connects fine. Server explorer can see the server machine and expand sub elements (services, etc). Thanks for any tips! MikeMike Maier
