I am getting a sharepoint formatting error where our sharepoint site loses its html formating. The picture bellow is what it is suppose to look like and the one under it is the formatting error I am getting. This error is coming up on several machines in our network. At first I thought it was the browser that was causing this but on some machines this error occurs on chrome and some on internet explorer on others it happens on both. This error also occurs accross operating systems on both windows 7 and XP. I also checked the different versions of chrome and internet explorer and all the explorers are the same but some are getting error while others arn't. I also checked whether or not if updates of the machines had anything to do with it and there was no corrolation between the error and the update versions. This error has been occuring for a few weeks now and any new machines that access the sharepoint page is getting the error on both internet explorer and chrome. If anyone has any ideas as to why this is happening it would be greatly appreciated.<o:p></o:p>

could you install Fiddler to monitor the http while you access the site?

Any lines in red means that something is wrong.

Do you have more than 1 web server in your farm as an entry point to your end users?  It looks like you are missing a css file on 1 or some of your web servers and if a client hits that box it's rendering without a css file.

I installed fiddler and it appears that it is an authentication error. I went to the developer tools in chrome and it gave me the errors below. I work with Netadmin100.  For our setup we're using NTLM to do Windows Authentication against our AD.  We noticed when looking in IIS that the folders giving the 401 errors were configured to use Anonymous Authentication where as the rest of the site was configured to use Windows Authentication.  We changed those folders to use Windows Authentication and that resolved the 401 issues with images and css files so the site at least displays correctly now.  However, we're still getting 401 errors on .axd and .js files for those users and some of the functionality (i.e. calendars) is not working correctly.

Does anyone have any suggestions about those errors?

It seems to be the problem in authorizing "_layouts" folder for currently logged in users as you deployed the design stuffs into "_layout" folder.

To resolve this problem,you need to assign the permission level as its looks like

Its best practice to keep all your images,css and javascript files in to SharePoint "Assets" folder instead of deploying into "_layout" folder.

Which folder you're talking about here? I'm facing same problem in SharePoint 2010. I did change my service account password though, but updated new one in application pool of each web application. I'm not able to load central admin or any other site properly. Getting 401 unauthorized error and not able to load any images, javascript which are in layout folder.
