Sharepoint and Extranet
Hi All, Back to the community after a long time... I have been hooked on to a project which involves compatibility of Sharepoint with Extranet. Is MOSS 2007 compatible with Extranet..? If yes, then how exactly does Sharepoint fit in with Extranet..? Can anyone throw some light on this..? I do need some help on this as I am blank on this... Any links or ideas are welcome.. Cheers, Dibs

There are many scenarios for MOSS in the extranet. Check MSDN and pay close attention to the user management and authentication model you choose. There are third party products available for managing users and look at ISA for added security. HTH, M

It sounds abit like you are talking about a specific product called 'Extranet' -is that the case, or do you mean the generic term 'extranet'? If it the latter, the yes, SharePoint is great for extranets but perhaps you could give a few more details as to what you are looking for.

MOSS 2007 is definitely heading its way to support extranet collaboration also. Please check about 'SharePoint Extranet Collaboration Tool Kit' from the following technet link and sharepoint team blog http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb936676.aspx http://blogs.msdn.com/sharepoint/archive/2008/01/03/new-beta-extranet-collaboration-toolkit.aspx

Check the Extranet Collaboration Toolkit for SharePoint http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc268155.aspx It consists of software and guidance that will help you to deploy a customizable solution built on Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 that teams can use to collaborate securely with partners outside the firewall. You can use MOSS to extend your intranet site to the internet. You can utilize ISA 2006 or IAG with edge firewall or back to back topology or you can put your servers within the DMZ there by securing your site. You can have mutiple authentication providers for your partner, customers or others. I have used ISA 2006 and TMG 2010 to secure our site on the internet with SSL Certificates. There are great information about setting up ISA and TMG on technet. Those will really help you. RegardsVishwas MCTS, MCITP SharePoint 2010
