Sharepoint and Cross-Site Lookup
Hi all I have this scenario I want to build two sharepoint 2007 sites. One for customers info and the other for products and customers orders. Now the problem is that in the second site I need to reference the customers info from the first site but unfortunately sharepoint doesnot provide out of the box cross-site lookup. There are many third party solutions or code samples such as this: http://philwicklund.com/archive/2009/09/08/sharepoint-cross-site-lookup-columns-with-jquery.aspx

I have this scenario Uhmm If you want to lookup in other site I would make Site Columns(site actions>site settings) add those coulmns to ur list. Now if the Site columns are on ur parent site your child can lookup to it. Also then you doesn't have to create a lookup field just add the site columns to ur list on the child site. Parent site can be the Mainsite. This isn't possible with list columns.

Hi, PW19, i may misunderstand your solution. Do you mean to put the URL to the parent item into a column of type hyperlink in the child list? For example, add the URL http://SharePointServerName/Lists/Parent/DispForm.aspx?ID=3 to a column in child list?

Hi GuYuming, It was like this you make a Site Column(use groups to easy select) on the parent add data to it. After that add the site column in ur child list. This is very handly for word templates etc. And why I use Parent site as home for all list is for get the data to other sites. Site My company(our Main)>custumors(Main)>custumors(Child) PW

Hi, PW, Great! Thanks for Sharing! I had never though of this workaround before: create a Site Column of type lookup in the site settings and add this site column to the list in Child site.

Works great, but what if you want to lookup information on the child site from the parent site? It doesnt seem to work with this implementation....
