Sharepoint Version Control When Downloading and Uploading Files
I have a document library on a Sharepoint site. The library is configured to require a user to check out a file before editing it. We have several users that access the site through Safari. For those users, they must download a file, make edits on their local machine, and then re-upload the file as a new version of the existing file. The problem is when 2 users are working on the same file. User 1 can download the file and make edits. User 2 can do the same thing. When the second user uploads, the changes by the first user gets overwritten. How can I avoid this problem. Is there a way to force users to check out a file before it is downloaded?

I'm not sure about getting around the limitations in Safari, but one thing you can do is to turn on versioning in the library. That way if a file gets overwritten, at least you can go look at the other version of it.Laura Rogers, MCSE, MCTSSharePoint911: SharePoint ConsultingBlog: http://www.sharepoint911.com/blogs/lauraTwitter: WonderLaura
