Sharepoint UI - 3 or 4 Column Layout
I work for a large aerospace manufacturing company and we currently use SharePoint, or at least we try our best.   Our Homepage is setup in a way that it displays one very large width column and then on the right it displays a very narrow width column,  What I would like to do is to add more columns, I would like to add 3 or maybe even 4.  How can this be done, I have discussed this internally with our share point administrator who has suggested that this could take a few days.  Does this mean that it is simply not as simple as selecting from a drop down box from 2 to however many columns that you want?  is there some sort of programming that is involved in this?

You might consider using a page layout, getting 3 or 4 divs with the required width and height.

Thats all, you have your 3/4 column layout

Hope this helps!

Based on my understanding by columns you mean webpart zones?

You could add a webpart page. The maximum horizonta webpart zones available in any webpart page by default is 4. However if you want to have more webpart zones you should add an aspx page using SPD and form the html accordingly(have a table with appropriate numbers of TDs etc.) and insert the zones inside those TDs.

Hope this helps.

You would have to create a custom page layouts using SPD.
