Sharepoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard fails on Step 2
I cannot get the Configuration Wizard to complete. I am trying to install MOSS 2007. The server i'm trying to run the sharepoint on is Server 2008 R2 Ent and the server hosting the database is Server 2003 running SQL 2005. The database gets created as well as the Admin content but it fails. I've search forums and I cannot find a solution. I ensured that the DTC allows remote connections (On both servers). I keep seeing this message in the log. Even when I tried running just WSS 3.0 with SP2 the same message occurred. Creating a new farm with config db SharePoint_Config content db SharePoint_AdminContent_25868baa-cc23-4551-9476-795fc8c3f06f server LSISQL2003 for farm mode 01/28/2010 11:06:02 8 ERR Task configdb has failed with an unknown exception 01/28/2010 11:06:02 8 ERR Exception: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: User cannot be found. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We are not using a named instance, but I tried it with LSISQL2003\MSSQLSERVER and it will not even recognize SQL being installed. It does state that I should ensure that I have appropriate permissions to access the server. I am trying to install this with the Domain Administrator, how could I not have access to the machine? I did forget to mention that the SQL server is a virtual machine. I should have pointed that out in the beginning my apologies.

Few Tips,1. Make sure you can access SQL instance from Sharepoint box, test it using:Create a blank text file and change the extension from .txt to .UDLDouble click to Open and click on Provider Tab,Select "Microsoft OLEDB Provider for SQL Server" and click NextOn Connection tab, Type SQL server name configured above in the "use data source name" and click refresh.Use Authentication typeclick on "test connection" button and the connection should Succeed. Also, you should see the databases on SQL Server when you expand the dropdown "Select the database on the server".2.The Account being used in the configuration wizard must ave atleast DBCreator and security admin roles on SQL3. Account logged into the Sharepoint server is domain account and has local admin rights on the box. Thanks!I LOVE MS..... I think that narrowed it down. I can't access the SQL server if I choose a specific account when testing the connection. It says "Test Connection Failed because of an error Initializing provider. Login failed for use "Domain\User" If I choose Windows NT Integrated Security, it connects fine. If I use the sa account, It works though! I checked on the SQL server and the account is listed as sysadmin, dbcreator, public, and securityadmin. He should have access to it.

When I first started getting the error I did check the surface area settings and they weren't set to allow remote connections. I changed it to allow both TCP and named pipes. I only restarted the services though. Maybe I should have actually rebooted SQL? I'm doing that right now so hopefully it fixes it.
