The issue is similar with the KB 916894: Error message when you install SharePoint Portal Server 2007 or Windows SharePoint Services 3.0: "Failed to create sample data" (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916894) please try to follow the steps in the KB to resolve the issue. To resolve this issue, configure the security settings for the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (DTC) to use the Allow Remote Clients setting. To do this, follow these steps: Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Component Services. In the left pane of the Component Services snap-in, expand Component Services, and then expand Computers. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. Click the MSDTC tab, and then click Security Configuration under Transaction Configuration. Under Security Settings, click to select the Network DTC Access check box, if it is not already selected. Then, click to select the Allow Remote Clients check box Click OK. When you receive the message that states that the DTC service will be stopped and restarted, click Yes to confirm that you want to continue. Click OK when you receive the message that the DTC service was restarted. Click OK. Hope the information can be helpful. -lambertLambert Qin | Microsoft Online Support Engineer How to ask a question in the forum (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375) Posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

I have exactly the same error as the topic starter. I am trying to configure Sharepoint Server 2007 running on SBS 2008. The porposed KB does not solve the problem, beside thatthe location of Allow Remote Clients for MDTC option is differ from that described in the article (may be because I have SBS 2008 asmy OS platfrom).Actually, I canrun Sharepoint portal at defaul location (http://companyweb) and access some administrative functions. However, I am not sure that everything will work correct in future if Sharepoint Configuration Wizard want not finish its job.We will rely on Sharepoint havily asa main repository for all our documnet management, so I want to know that it will not fail at some critical moment.Any suggestions woud be highly appreciated.Thank you,Alex

Installed WSS 3.0 SP2 on SBS 2008 and after installing Search Server 2008 Express I ran the Config wizard and got exactly the same error. I'm trying to force the upgrade with psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -force.Have you figured out what the problem was? How did you resolve it?Thanks,Asembler.

We have the same issue. WSS3 on SBS 2008. We don't have the "Allow remote clients for MDTC" option either. And now I can't even reach the SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration without getting an error.Am uninstalling Search Server Express 2008 now.

Hi, I had the same error as the original poster and re-downloading the ISO resolved my issue. Thought this might save a few painful hours for anyone else experiencing the same issue. Daniel
