Sharepoint Permissions Question
<!-- [if gte mso 10]> <mce:style> I have a calendar list that I want everyone in the company to “view only”. How do I do this without deleting my rights or others who need to edit the calendar. I thought of adding the group nt authority\authenticated users and giving them “view only” rights, but will that give me “view only” rights? How does the group / user work. In the team site we have groups and some users are in more than one group. Does a group permission override a user permission? Does a list permission override a user permission? Any help is appreciated.

Yes, that will solve your requirement: " Adding the group nt authority\authenticated users and giving them “view only” rights " The list permission will not override your users permissions, all other users or groups will keep having the permissions that they already have, by giving them an extra "view only" rights does not mean that all other rights (contribute, etc) that they already have will be removed, they'll continue having those rights.

Hi, If the list inherits its permissions from its parent site, just add the 'NT Authority\authenticated users' to the SharePoint 'Visitors' group of the parent site. The 'Visitors' group has only 'View' right. If the list has its own permissions then give the 'NT Authority\authenticated users' the 'View' only right and give the other users the permission you want them to have.
