Sharepoint Intranet site asking for login credentials, only with alternate mapped URL
My default intranet site has an altermate mapping for the Intranet zone with a URL that's easier to remember. However, whenever I open up IE to this URL, it is asking for my username and password. I check the remember password box but it keeps asking for it. I notice that the zone is set to Internet whereas the default URL first shows Local Intranet (in IE) and then changes to Unknown Zone (mixed). The default site does not prompt for a user name and password but the alternate URL does. How can I make the alternate URL behave like the default URL? To get around this I've added the mapped URL to the Local Intranet zone under my IE security settings. I don't want to have all the users to make this adjustment (or can it be done through group policy)?

I should mention that I put the Alternate public URL under the Intranet zone in AAM.

I did some research and the problem is because my new URL has a "." in it. IE treats URL's with "." as part of the Internet zone. What's the easiest way to get this URL into the Intranet zone for all the users?

If the alternate site is an FQDN (http://YourSite.YourDomain.com) you need to add it to the Local Intranet Sites in your security settings of IEIn IE go to the site where you need to authenticate and login the go to Tools > Internet Options > Security > Local Intranet > Sites > Advanced > Add > Close >Ok >Ok....Cheers,-IvanIvan Sanders My LinkedIn Profile, My Blog, @iasanders.

Hi Ivan, your suggestion works but I don't want the staff here to be doing that themselves. I think I may have found the solution though I haven't tried it yet. In Group Policy, Navigate too...Computer Configuration>Administrattive Templates>Windows Components>Internet Explorer>Internet Control Panel>Security Page...Then here you can find the policy for "Site to Zone Assignment List"You will need to enable it then add your url's right in there. Each zone assignment is going to have a numerical value. Intranet Zone has a value of 1, 2 for Trusted Sites.
