I am looking into using the webparts as a solution for this.Is there any other way to publish reports to sharepoint, i'm looking more for a way to publish a report to sharepoint using a subscription that will create pdf's or excel files.

If you are using a native mode Report Server and you just need to publish the reports as subscriptions in SHarePoint, You can setup file subscriptions to a local share.
