Sharepoint Helpdesk & Outlook Integration
Is there a way to set up the Helpdesk in Sharepoint so that when an email is sent to an email group of say IT Request, the email would automatically create a service request?

firstly, Microsoft has released a template for helpdesk you can download the template from microsoft web site. its a wsp package you need to deploy to your server. we have email enabled document libraries in sharepoint you can try with this option.

Yes I am aware of the templates and we are currently reviewing to see if the template will meet our service/help desk needs. I was just trying to figure out a way to create a new service desk/help desk request within Sharepoint automatically by sending a request to the outlook email group of "IT Request." Would your response be the same as above?

ya, for your requirement we have email enabled document libraries in sharepoint you can try with this option.

A custom workflow that generates a ticket number on receipt of a new email and responds to the sender via email will be required. Some third parties also offer some solutions for similar requirements.

Hi, Would you share some ot the "thrid parties" which you know of. We own SharePoint standard 2010 thru our EA agreement and i am interested in a basic help desk system for that. I see the Microsoft WSS 3.0 help desk template out there but not sure that will cleanly work or work at all. I was hoping for something 2010 speciffic.
