Sharepoint 3.0 loses ability to contact remote SQL database after SQL server has firewall enabled
We have had a Sharepoint server installed for well over a year. It uses the SQL Server on a second server. Yesterday I used the Security Configuration Wizzard to configure the firewall on the SQL server. This morning Sharepoint could not connect. We have several other SQL databases on the same SQL Server and no users accessing them were having problems. We even have remote users hitting a database from Crystal Reports. On examination, we found that the services for the Sharepoint database had been shut off. These were restarted and the Sharepoint server still could not connect. Next we rebooted the SQL Server. Nothing. Finally I disabled the firewall and rebooted. Instant connect. Hoping someone has an idea for this one

You can setup exceptions in Firewall to allow SQL server to be connected.
